Cabinetry built to the room, not to the catalogue
Gorgeous cabinets transform a kitchen or a bathroom, and Kitchen Cabinets and Beyond specialises in whole-house custom cabinetry — storage solutions for every room, from the bathroom to the home office to the laundry. The distinction that matters is not “custom versus stock” as a badge; it is whether the room you have can be solved by a catalogue. In a newer build with square walls and standard ceilings, usually yes. In a 1960s Orange County tract house with a bulkhead over the sink run and a wall that is out by an inch and a half across ten feet, usually not.
Custom cabinetry is built to your measurements, so it fits properly and it is sturdy, and it is designed around what you actually store rather than around what a manufacturer assumed. That is where the added value sits — not in the door front, which anyone can sell you, but in the interior.
Drawn before it is built
Our team uses CAD to produce a detailed proposal for your approval, complete with the materials you have chosen. You approve a drawing of your cabinet in your room, not a photograph of someone else’s. That step exists because manufacture is the point at which changes get expensive: an hour spent on the drawing is worth a week of rework.
Quality is not compromised anywhere in that process. We use good materials, we partner with strong brands, and the parts you touch every day — soft-closing doors, dovetail drawer boxes, the hinges and slides — are specified properly rather than value-engineered out. Warranty terms come from the cabinet maker, in writing, before you order. The sound a drawer makes when it closes is a reasonable proxy for how long the cabinet will last.
What we build, room by room
Kitchens. Full runs, islands with seating, wine walls with bottle cubbies and integrated coolers, appliance garages, pantry pull-outs and corner solutions. Often specified alongside a new countertop, because the cabinetry and the stone have to be chosen against each other.
Bathrooms. Floating and furniture-style vanities, tall linen towers, medicine cabinets and hidden hampers — see bathroom remodeling for the rest of that scope.
Everywhere else. Laundry rooms with folding counters, home offices with printer garages, mudroom benches, media walls and wet bars.

When built-to-order is worth it
The room is not a standard size
Stock cabinetry comes in three-inch increments and fills the rest with filler strips. In an older Orange County house, where nothing is square and ceilings vary room to room, that is how you lose a foot of usable storage to trim.
You need something a catalogue does not make
A wine wall with bottle cubbies and an integrated cooler. A laundry room with a hamper pull-out and a folding counter. A home office with a printer garage. These are not door styles — they are cabinet interiors, and they are made, not selected.
You want the whole house to match
Kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, mudroom and built-ins specified in one finish family, from one maker, at one time. Matching a stain across three suppliers and two years is close to impossible; doing it in one order is straightforward.
It has to survive being used

Talk through the room
What goes in it, who uses it, what the current storage gets wrong. Bring photographs. For whole-home work we will usually want to see every room in the scope, because a finish that reads warm in a north-facing laundry reads differently in a south-facing kitchen.

Measure and draw in CAD
Every opening is measured on site, then drawn. We produce a detailed proposal for your approval, complete with the materials you have chosen — so you are approving a specific cabinet, not a category.

Choose materials and hardware
Door style, construction, finish, edge detail, hinges, slides, pulls and interior fittings, chosen from full-size samples in the showroom. We build with the same lines we sell — Omega, Waypoint, KitchenCraft and Homecrest — plus fully bespoke work where none of them fits.

Manufacture
Built to the approved drawing and your measured dimensions. This is the longest part of the schedule and the part where changes stop being free, which is why the drawing stage is deliberately slow.

Install and walk through
Fitted, scribed to the walls, adjusted and detailed. We coordinate the trades and finish the punch list with you before the job is closed.

How is custom cabinetry different from semi-custom?
Semi-custom is a manufacturer's catalogue with a wide range of sizes, finishes and interior options — for most kitchens it is the right answer and it is what we specify most often. Fully custom means the cabinet is made to a dimension and a configuration the catalogue does not offer. We will tell you which one your room actually needs, because custom is not automatically better, it is better when the room requires it.

Do you build for rooms other than kitchens?
Yes — whole-house cabinetry is a large part of what we do. Bathrooms, laundry rooms, home offices, mudrooms, media walls, wet bars and built-in storage. If it holds something and attaches to a wall, we have built one.

How long does custom cabinetry take?
Design and approval come first, and take longer the more rooms are in scope. Manufacture runs longer than stock cabinetry, and installation depends on the size of the order. The written proposal carries the dates.

Can you match cabinetry we already have?
Often, and bring a door with you if you can. Matching an existing finish is realistic when it is a current or recent line; matching a twenty-year-old stain that has aged in sunlight is a different problem, and we will be straight with you about which one you have before you order.

Is custom always more expensive than replacing with stock?
Not always, and the comparison is rarely like for like. Custom removes filler strips and dead corners, so a custom run often delivers more usable storage per foot. Where the boxes you have are sound and the layout works, refacing is cheaper than either and we will say so.
